Ancient Cities: Tanks

The early civilisations of Sri Lanka were based on agriculture. The growth of agriculture required water. But the cities of Anuradhapura and Polonnaruwa were based in the dry zone of of Sri Lanka hence having a minimal rainfall. The great kings of these cities built tanks and reservoirs to store the rain water for the use of agriculture. These photographs were captured by Kushan Bhareti using his Sony Cyber-shot DCS-W690 camera
